I haven't had many around here this year. Don't know why, I usually have dozens of sightings.

sometimes they will startle and run when you are handling them and fall. it can damage them. but I have never seen one jump up off the ground or out of a container or anything.

Billie came from a ranch in Arizona and was supposedly Australian Shepherd and Dingo.

Once I was at my cousin's parents' house and pulled the leaf catching basket from over the bottom drain of the pool. A very large black coiled millipede, stretched out it would be 10" long, with two rows of a gazillion little legs, was in the basket with some leaves.

I dumped it out on the deck and Billie approached with great caution. She watched it intently, coming a little closer to sniff but wound like a watch spring in case she had to back off quickly. She circled, staring at it, intermittently scraping near it with a front paw to gauge its danger level. It had drowned, and after careful inspection Billie determined it was not dangerous and walked away.

it seemed to want to go in so I opened the screen door for it. we get all kinds of things in the house. a wandering tarantula doesn't bother me at all.
