I have just retired. Here's where I live now.

Unanticipated, and early at 63, but my heart was no longer in it after a breakup after 19 years (she's moved in with her new boyfriend. She's also 63). Retired Oct. 31 from DC, left a lot of money on the table, but what the hey. Been rough, but I'm working through it gradually. This is where I always wanted to be (colder earlier than expected, though).

Have visited the area.

I was retired before I intended, have been for a few years, from DC too, and found this spot about 1 year ago, southern MD.

In addition to being near daughter and DC/suburbs, lovely sunsets.

tho last year (March?) I was snowed in for a week! And there are hurricanes, or effects of them. In fact, couldn't get renter's insurance due to being in a storm of some sort zone. (Didn't really want the insurance, but thought it was interesting.)

and retirement can be difficult to get used to at first, but at some point you settle into a routine and that becomes your new normal. I'm only semi-retired (metro Detroit area) but had some months off completely between full time and part time and had no trouble finding things to do. I, too left a lot of money on the table that would have helped in retirement, but as you say, what the hell. It's water over the dam and I moved on. That's all anyone can do.

Good luck to you. You are in a beautiful place. Maybe you can get involved in the local land conservancy or something? Western Michigan needs to preserve the beautiful spots.

I know it will take time. Thought we were together for the rest of our lives, but that was shortsighted. Working through it a (snowy) day at a time.
