No references before they e-published their work, that I could find.

Here is Knipperdolling's wikipedia entry.

The word as a noun is confusing, because it sounds like a verb or a gerund. Using "fanatical idiot" rather than "knipperdollin" would probably be more effective in conveying the meaning in casual conversation.

Thanks for the reference, but where/how did you come across the word?

I see that I wrote it down for some reason, in my notebook, so I looked it up this morning.
