(14,881 posts)http://www.grubstreet.com/2014/12/potatoes-obesity.html
A team of McGill University researchers published a paper this week that includes what is likely the most shocking thing about potatoes any of us will hear all week: In an experiment, potato consumption was shown to decrease body weight gain.
It should be mentioned that this all went down in a laboratory, and it was tiny mice bingeing on the tubers. They were Irish potatoes, too, if that makes any difference. Most important, the potatoes were ingested in the form of an extract, a painstakingly prepared polyphenol-rich extract made from lots and lots of potatoes about 30 per daily dose....
...Researchers say the potato compound may be used to help prevent obesity and type 2 diabetes. It may also even shed some light on the so-called "French paradox," the concept at the heart of French Women Don't Get Fat, which has been used to promote everything from Bordeaux wine to brie. It turns out that potatoes are the primary source of polyphenols in the typical French diet.

(25,921 posts)I was roughly seven at the time (as seven was a very rough year for me), when I received a nerf football. But no matter how hard I threw it, it just wouldn't stick to my Lego blocks. This was very disheartening for a seven year old boy such as myself.
I called the nerf hotline and they gave me some nonsense about how nerf products and Lego products weren't "compatible". Like that's supposed to soothe the mind of a seven year old genius such as myself. Hell, puberty was still years down the road.
I tried calling several more times, but--long story short--restraining order. Shit man! I lost popsicle privileges for a week. This was in the summer! What's with that fuckery?
I commiserated with my cousin, whilst listening to that one Alice Cooper album. You know the one. But that was small consolation to a seven year old such as myself.
I read a lot that summer. Mostly comic books. I'm a Marvel man, as one might guess. No matter what happened in those comics, I never once called Stan Lee. When it comes to restraining orders, once bitten twice shy, you know?
God damn, what was with those fashions in the 70s? Holy crap. I don't mean to be judgmental, but that was some unacceptable shit.
Deep down, I like to think that people just innately knew that bell-bottoms were an insult to all that is good and pure. But then here we are four decades later, and you find people listening to Nickelback. So who knows?
I will say this: how Ron Perlman didn't win an Oscar for his portrayal of Hellboy, I'll never know.
