Checker, she has a Checker Cab uniform and standard rates. I loved riding in them from LAX to assorted relative houses when I was a little kid.

I got to look through about 100 years of really cool photos owned by my employer who was a 4th generation family run funeral home owner. I asked him why they had no limos in fleet until the late 1970's, and he said that the stock Cadillacs were so spacious they didn't need them, and back then people were actually quite thrilled to be chauffeured around in a top of the line Caddy.

my first recollection of a taxi ride was in Taipei in 1975, I think. they called them Taipei Tigers and they were more thrilling than any amusement park ride could ever dream of!

It was a decent part-time job. The cars were big, boxy, and roomy.

I have many stories, but not because of the car itself. Weird things happen in the cab world ....

...and thought those Big Black London cabs were the coolest thing ever! Now they're a lot smaller, and those iconic Double Decker Buses don't spew diesel anymore. I guess being able to breathe in the city is a fair tradeoff, right?
