Today I called the the veteran's rep at the unemployment office. He only meets people by appointment and you must call to make an appointment. It has been a couple of hours and he has not called back. No big deal I'll wait.
This morning a moose came up to our front porch and hung around. He charged my son when he ran to the bus.

Hope the vet's rep calls you back soon. You might want to make a follow-up call later tomorrow if he hasn't; he might have been tied up with something and forgot.

I will give him another call tomorrow and leave another message.
I really hate looking for a job. I will probobly go to a temp agency next week and try doing some pt office work.
Right now I'm taking courses at lynda.com. If anyone wants to sharpen their software skills you should check it out!

(2,692 posts)Still no phone call from the VA rep...dude must be swamped! I'll give him a second call tomorrow morning. I'm planning on going to Kelly Services Friday morning. I have got to get back to work and stop loligagging around!

Thanks for the positive vibes!
I want to post a bunch of Alaskan photos. Just so people know it's not all about crazy right wing nut jobs up here!

Well I did finally get a call from the VA rep. I have an appointment to see him on Monday morning. I need to bring my resume and DD-214 in on a thumbdrive so he can check it out! Sounds good!
I also signed up a temp agency called Adams & Associates. Hopefully they'll get me some temp work soon!

(2,692 posts)Bob from LMTV Palmer calls me and wants to know if I want to contribute to his local access station in the Matanuska Valley. The renumeration is 50 percent of whatever spots I can sell for the said program. He said I can have total creative control...it just has to be interesting.
I would love to give something like this a shot, but the drive out to lazy mountain during the winter is very treacherous. So I would have to do any production here in anchorage. I would need access to camera, sound and light set ups.
I need to call him back. He seems like a great guy...but the obvious problems on logistics, money and equipment are daunting. I have plenty of ideas for a show. But, it isn't a job if I wind up out of pocket!

(10,418 posts)I was a long haul trucker for many years. Now days I'm a local driver. I've been to all of the lower 48, but I never made it to Alaska or Hawaii of course. Got close to Alaska my first long haul- a 2 stopper in Edmonton and then over to Vancouver, BC. I've only been to BC on one other occasion.
The terrain in your shots reminds me a lot of Washington and Oregon. It sure is pretty out that way.

(2,692 posts)Southern California Memories
I live in Alaska, but originally I am a California native. I was born in Los Angeles and raised there.
As it happens a co-worker mentioned that his family was moving to California, and asked me if I had any recommendations on things to do and sights to see when he got there. I have not been to L.A. in well over 25 years, but upon dwelling on my old childhood and young adult memories..Here is a list I made:
1.Go to Los Angeles China Town across from Union Station (sort of)and order Sea Cucumber in a clay pot and some Crispy Duck!
2. Go to Huntington Beach on Saturday Morning and go Body Surfing

3. Spend a Day at the San Diego Zoo

(2,692 posts)Birds From Your Heart
by Steerpike
What secret left your heart?
The wings of fleeting passions pass...
is the perception of my feeling art,
then required to make love last?
Fatigue passes, leaves light rainbow faded
your hair lays softly over your dark and sad eyes...
blinds your soul and leaves you jaded
unbinding long bound ties
If ever you look up to the sky
and talk to birds as they fly
forget all the tears and the lies
and keep in mind, love only works when you try...

(2,692 posts)You Left Me for Another Girl
I loved to touch your little pearl
The deepness in your song and heart
You left me for another girl
I was the wrong guy for the part
We met in school in Santa Fe
You played guitar and sang
You wore your clothes like in a play
It seemed you had a plan
I fell in love in spite of logic
You seemed to love me too
But really it was biologic
The one you loved was Sue!
Sue was crazy that I knew
She belched and loved to twirl
Inevitably you fell in love
And left me for a girl
I look back, now and then, and think of us
And what it might have been
I laugh and think, "What was the fuss?"
You were fat and had bad skin!
So I tell myself it wasn't meant to be
I really didn't want you
But that's a lie I tell myself
Because I cannot face what's true
It's your differences that made me love
You danced to a different drum
It's your spirit I was in awe of
You made me tremble and succumb

(2,692 posts)The veterens rep gave me some real great tips on how to apply for a state job when I finally met with him. I wound up taking a few "tests" the state sometimes requires if you don't have a degree. I also learned how to write a proper cover letter.
I applied for a state position with Health and Human Services as an Office assistant. To my surprise I was called in for an interview. I thought it all went rather well. Now I have to wait a week to find out if I got the job.
If I get it I will work 7 1/2 hrs a day 5 days a week. Nice benefits and 30 k a year to start. I hope I get it.
The photo above was taken with a Nikon D50. It is of the oldest house downtown.
