He claimed drinking a fruity, colorful, mildly alcoholic beverage at a bar would attract the ladies to you.

Pants were always optional.

He had a comedy gig on a radio show at some point.

If I recall correctly, he was an English major in college.

In between a slew of comedic posts he would sometimes throw in poignant stories from his life that seemed almost out of character unless you'd been reading him for a while on here and knew he did that sort of thing from time to time.

He had a story published once. It was about sex. Surprise!

Those are a few of the things I remember about him from the board. Maybe that will help get the creative, commemorative ideas flowing.

Has it been a year already????

I remember when he was feeling blue because he felt no one was paying attention to his lounge posts.
And here we are, a year later, still missing him.

Not that I don't care about the rest of youse mugs, but I think everyone backed off, and then whatever plague of nasty erupted on GD drove even more possibility of having an actual conversation out the door, and...I don't know...

But I'm glad to see you, and to jump back in now and again.

I was in the hospital this time last year and wasn't on DU. When I got out and back on the computer, I learned of his death. I was very sad and have been missing him ever since.

But in some ways my friends here on DU are as real as my friends in "real life." Our friends here are real people, too, and we know them and care about them even though we've never met them in person.

I wasn't terribly surprised by how hard MFM's loss hit me. We'd exchanged PMs and talked about my coming out for a visit. More importantly, we knew each other and shared a lot of fun together here in cyberspace.

I have been a frequent reader of DU for more than 10 years, long before I actually signed up. MFM was the first one I looked for when I got on the computer for the day. Between his cartoons, cute pictures and his personal stories, I came to think of him as a friend. I never exchanged more than a couple of emails with him but I looked forward to seeing him on DU daily. His absence from DU feels like a personal loss. He would be gratified to know how many people remember him and still miss him.

Remember how he'd get miffed when he didn't get a lot of replies to his threads? We'd give him a bunch of recs, but that wasn't enough. He wanted to HEAR from us, and didn't understand when we just appreciated his humor and had nothing to add.

He'd take a brief timeout, but thankfully it was never for long. And you couldn't blame him for his petulance after all the work he put into photoshopping images and adding his personalized captions.

I'm not sure that he ever really got how much we appreciated his humor even when we had nothing to say. And his reaction was just one of his loveable quirks.

but I believe that his miffed posts came at a times when his health was at a low ebb. He would have a health crisis and then come back ready to entertain us some more. It seemed to be a pattern. I hardly blame him for his curmudgeoness as he fought the good fight for a lot longer than most could have. He was quite a guy.

I was out of town for a couple of days and just got back. My house is freezing so I am going to bed, but I have a small surprise for the Lounge tomorrow.

Drove past Picacho Peak going and coming and he would be tickled to know that for me that big old rock peak has become sort of his headstone. which fits somewhat well with his his ego at times.

miss him a lot. December was hard with the memories of our last visits.

To be so close to someone, to share your thoughts and dreams...

And then to lose them so abruptly, to see an end to all of that.

So much pain.

I'm so sorry...
