It opened in 1962, but it was called Wal-Mart Discount City and was near the corner of Walnut and Eighth streets in Rogers, Arkansas. In the 1970s, the store moved to the nearby Walnut Plaza Shopping Center. From there, it moved farther down Walnut Street to its present location, where it is officially Store #1. Walton's Five-and-Dime had existed before the first official Wal-Mart and was located on The Square in neighboring Bentonville.

Didn't mow the lawn often, though. My father preferred doing it. Maybe because it gave him a chance to dry out.
