The blizzard of '78.

We moved to southern New Hampshire from Alabama in June of 1977.
In February of 1978 we found out what we'd bought into.
It was a hurricane with snow.
Over two feet of snow.

We lived in the boonies.
Our unpaved driveway was 250 feet long.
The guy who plowed it couldn't get out of his garage.

That was the only time I had to call TWA and tell crew schedule that I couldn't be in New York for my flight because of weather.

"Don't worry about it. We're shut down. Nothing's moving. Call us when you get plowed out."

I enjoyed a nice couple of days with my family in front of the fireplace.

I woke up that Monday morning to find my front yard in knee-deep snow. The schools were closed and even my dad stayed home from work because the roads were practically impassable.

BTW, my dogs were the only ones who really had fun playing in the snow.

I don't recall a problem getting there. I vowed, however, never to live that close to a job again! LOL

Right in the snow zone. We barely held out. I have a twin. We were born about 6 weeks early.

how my grandma decided to make her daughter (my mom) one, nice, last special dinner before i was born. the dinner looked delicious and smelled delicious (according to my mother's reports) and i decided, just as she sat down to eat, that it would be a good time to join the party!

my mom & dad were forced to skip this great dinner (i think it was a roast) and go to the hospital. i wonder if nana ever ate some of it. probably. but my guess is that she was too preoccupied to enjoy it much.

I was in clinical depression and hadn't left my apartment for days. I rarely got out of bed, and hadn't turned the teevee on, so I didn't know it was coming. I was planning to go food shopping the day it hit. My pantry was near empty.

I lived on cream of wheat made with powdered milk for a week. At one point, I walked a mile+ to the grocery store, only to find that it was closed. It took 5 days of shoveling to *find* my car, and another 2 days to free it. I was running out of cream of wheat when the grocery re-opened.

Never forgot that. I go into every winter with a full, full pantry. Filling it makes me feel really good and safe and content. So does hunkering down at home on a day like this, lol!
