I sound like my Dad!

I was with my nephew today, and he was listening to some rap on his car stereo.

It was some weird sound (supposed to be music?) and a guy saying "Bleep bleep gonna do some dope bleep bleep gonna shoot a cop bleep bleep gonna bang my ho bleep bleep bleep."

I asked him to put a music station on instead of his rap shit.

He said "You sound like Grandpa."

Oh gawd, I do.

Especially considering most of the rock stars I listen to ARE grandfathers!

Dad didn't like those crooners like Bing Crosby, and he called classical music "longhair."

He called rock music "shit."

but the song was among his favorites.

As I recall, and because Dad was born and grew up in NYCity, his older sister (his mother had died in the 1918 flu epidemic) took him to concerts including ballet, I guess to educate him in culture. Grandpa ran a deli, in the City. Dad didn't call rock 'shit,' but didn't like it so was a no-no on car radio!

My niece and I were visiting him. He was very uncomfortable by dinner time. Antsy, restless, in pain. It was taking forever for them to bring him his tray.

I pulled this up on YouTube and played this for him. He started singing. And he still sounded beautiful.

Dean Martin - Sway (1954):

My dad was a professional singer in his teens. He performed at the Chicago Theater and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra asked him to tour with them. My grandparents wouldn't let him. He sounded better than any of the rat pack

I can't imagine many of the popular artists today still able to perform like this when they're the age Eddie and Dave are here.

only i prefer to call it "rap crap" rather than "rap shit"

(it has more of an ironic rhyme to it)
