(12,132 posts)And Tommy Shaw is great even if he missed their inception by a few years - still been with them a long time.
I'd go see 'em! I just wouldn't be as excited as I would be if Dennis DeYoung were involved.

(1,005 posts)the first thing I do is look up on Wikipedia who's still in the group. Then I go to YouTube and find a video of a recent concert to give them a listen. It has saved me a lot of money and disappointment.
P.S. I love "Too Much Time On My Hands".

(12,132 posts)I knew a girl named Lorelei in my youth and that song described how I felt about her. Sadly, it wasn't mutual. (friend zone. )

(78,249 posts)like when some moran booked Josh Groban into the 17,000-seat arena where the NHL Sharks play. Several officemates scored free tix, and then found out why: from what they tell me, it was maybe one-third full. As it doubtless will be when the Sharks move their AHL affiliate in there next season.

(12,132 posts)I once saw Lou Gramm doing pretty much the same thing - whole new band, all Foreigner songs. He was about 200 pounds over his glory days weight and looked like he was going to stroke out at any moment but he sounded great. I actually enjoyed his performance more than the time a few months later when I saw the band currently touring as Foreigner without Lou. In fact, without anyone that was in Foreigner lol. (There is an original member in that band but he was sick the night we saw them and only came out on stage after the show to thank us for showing up anyway. His roadie filled in for him during the set.)
The opening act at the Lou Gramm show was Survivor - we thought it was funny that there was only one survivor of the originals in that band and all but one were foreigners to Lou's band.
And then everyone was a foreigner to Foreigner. And that concert also had Journey with the little Filipino kid who really does an incredible Steve Perry. And Night Ranger who are still fairly intact. Middle aged ladies in tube tops love some Sister Christian. (judging by my experience at that show lol) (And I'm not saying that derogatorily - I love middle aged ladies in tube tops)

(21,046 posts)I saw Styx when they were an opening act.
I think this was 1974. I was in college.
Middle act:Climax Blues Band (Best band in the concert)
Headliner: Bachman-Turner Overdrive (takin' care of business)
They don't have concerts anymore with THREE solid acts taking the stage. I saw another concert like that in the same year or the next year.

(12,132 posts)Last night I saw Napalm Death, Voivod and Exhumed - all legends in the metal scene.
lol, although to be fair, the last arena show I saw with multiple headliners was Kansas and Heart in the 80s and I imagine by then "headliner status" was somewhat debatable...
Nowadays there are tons of music festivals that get multiple superstar acts but you have to sit through an ocean of mediocrity and nobodies to get to the good stuff. (And even then, sometimes the good stuff IS the nobodies - in fact, a LOT of times the good stuff is the nobodies)

(4,450 posts)A couple of summers ago my wife and I were laying in bed with the window open when we heard a concert start up a couple of blocks away on the local college campus. After a couple of songs I noticed the band playing a really bad cover of "Come Sail Away." Then another bad song I didn't recognize, then a cover of "Renegade." Then another we didn't know, and then "Mr. Roboto." My wife said something along the lines of "Wow whoever that is makes Styx sound way worse than they already were."
The band playing that night was, of course, Styx.
