Deadly Miasma of Night



In the 19th century, people believed poisonous exhalations escaped from their pores at night. Twin beds were recommended, even for married couples to provide some protection against the deadly miasma. One “expert” calculated that 40% of deaths in the United States were related to these imaginary fumes.

judging from all the bedroom scenes in movies of that era where the husband and wife always slept apart.

It occurs to me that there is a movement in the US to take us back to the 19th century not just socially, but scientifically as well.
