I'm sorry I mocked the Hoary Gods of Winter..

I started a few weeks ago here..

Even after Thor_MN warned me about tempting " the cruel monkeys of fate" I sort of continued here..

After bouncing between Illinois, and Wisconsin I got sent to Jersey where I had to sit out weather on the way there, and now I'm stuck on the Ohio/Pennsylvania line, the roads are too slick for my comfort zone. I will miss my appointment this evening, so I'm stuck with my load till I can reschedule an appointment on Monday. Only then can I catch a load back home to Los Angeles, and non lethal weather.

When I was driving long haul, I didn't like to sit much aside from getting the sleep that I needed. It sucks being stuck at a truck stop, or even worse, a rest area for the weekend. If you're in a truck stop you will likely spend too much money on food and video games to fight the boredom. If you are in a rest area, you'd better have a large supply of change or a cooler full of food and something to drink in the truck. At least there's a toilet.

I had satellite radio out on the road and that helped me considerably in getting through down time. I still have satellite radio even though I have a local gig now days. Once I started on that, it made commercial radio seem like a serious downgrade.

I should have continued a few more miles west, the TA there has a resturant that uses a smoker, and their BBQ makes it one of my favorite food stops.

I have Sirius radio too, along with Audio Books, Kindle, and of course my iPad so I have no excuse for being board.

The fridge in my truck is empty, and food here is Subway and Chester's fried chicken, of which I am soooooo sick of, but you're right, I could be stuck on an on-ramp, or a rest area.

You can get a half way healthy meal there on the run and on a budget. I grew weary of them, though, after about 1000 sandwiches and half the truck stops in the country picking them up.

I really liked the TA's chili. I would get it with onions and cheese and dowse it with Tabasco.

I'm glad you are armed with the necessary anti-boredom devices. I had a laptop with a hotspot on my last long haul stint. I would take pictures with a digital camera of my adventures out on the road and post them along with a story here at DU. I talked to you out in LA on the phone when I visited with Peggy. There is a picture story here from back then documenting my visit.
