Dolphin Asks Diver for Help Removing a Fishing Hook

http://blog.therainforestsite.com/dolphin-hook-rescue/

While diving with manta rays in Garden Eel Cove off the coast of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, co-founder and vice president of Manta Pacific Research Foundation Keller Laros encountered a troubled bottlenose dolphin — somehow the poor cetacean got its left pectoral fin snagged by a fishing hook.

Thankfully, Laros and his crew were there to give a helping hand to the struggling dolphin.

Watch the video to see Laros work his magic!

*Very* good people. We dove with Keller and Wendy Laros, but the two night trips we made we didn't see any mantas. Still have a lot of great memories from the sites they took us to.

Mahalo, Keller!

I Googled it and looked on YouTube to no avail, but a while ago I saw this video of two dolphins who approached a diver with a baby dolphin also snared. They actually held it in place for the diver to cut away the line, taking the baby to the surface occasionally to breath, then returning to the diver so he could complete the task.

Truly remarkable creatures.

this was about 5 years ago. They cut the whale loose, taking almost an hour. After the whale was free, it came to each of the divers and touched its nose to their masks, saying thank you.

I really hate when ignorant humans assume that other life forms are of lesser mind and value than we are!

smarter and nicer than humans. Many species, in any event - dolphins, whales, crows, etc.
