Winter in the north isn't bad...

Last edited Tue Feb 24, 2015, 09:19 PM - Edit history (1)

...unless you have to do something outside.

It was negative 5 when I went into work this morning. It did warm up to 23 this afternoon, but with the warm up came high winds making it still feel like negative 5.

I have to work outside intermittently through the day for my job. On days like today, I wear a t-shirt, thermal shirt, button down shirt, sweat pants, bib overalls, gloves, and a jacket- toboggan on top, work boots on the bottom. I don't get too cold, but the frigid air still wears me out. I think something about just breathing it in for a while takes the energy right out of you.

you cover your mouth and nose with a scarf (esp. made of polar fleece) or this item: www.breathwarmers.com.
I have asthma and cold dry air is bad news for anyone with a respiratory condition. The Breathwarmer has really helped and it's under $20.00 including shipping. (I don't have any connection to Breathwarmers besides being a happy customer.) If that doesn't appeal to you there are other things you could consider, e.g., a ski mask.

I have considered getting a ski mask, but I can't find them locally. I may be able to find one online.

I think that cold plus wind makes you tired. I know that even a warm wind can do that to me. And I haven't lived for decades in the kind of cold you're having!

and I'm a regular runner.

A month or so ago, I ran when it was 11 (very unusual for us). I just wanted to go back to bed after that.

Since then, we have continued to have frigid temps and I've run at 18 or less. I run up to an hour a day, but at those temps I pretty much go for 45 minutes. I've been running for 30 years, but I'm knackered after these cold weather runs.

You are right. It takes everything out of you. Of course, I run because I want to, but work outside is another kettle of fish.

Hang in there bud. It means you're tough and hardy.

Me...I'm just stupid lol.

That's all... it just isn't that bad

It was pretty on campus today with the snow! We are expected to get 3-6 more inches tomorrow night/Thursday morning. That's a lot for us, considering one inch shuts everything down. :p

Pretty campus pic -

It's good to see you.

I saw the post the other day where you said you were finishing up your master's degree. It seems like you were just shipping out to the northeast to embark on college not too long ago. Time flies!

I went back to school to finish my degree about 2.5 years ago. I graduated from Indiana University in December with a business degree, but I'm having a hard time finding a job in that field. So I have the dubious honor of being a trucker with a degree. I was considering going to Ball State to pursue a master's degree, but my wife said she'd divorce me if I did that. Working full time and going to school was hard on us both.

Degrees aren't what they've been cracked up to be anymore. It's enough to make finishing school a little terrifying

I have to admit I love snow.

But the single digits last week -sheesh, kicked me almost to the curb!

And tomorrow -MORE is coming!

I lived in NYC four 4 years, but at least there both the city preps for it and you mentally prepare yourself. Down here it's just a whole different ordeal. And yeah, I saw that more is on the way tomorrow night/Thursday morning! I'm supposed to be filming thursday morning too. -_____-
