I got tired of having to get out my camera to check the time, so I finally broke down and got another cheap Casio watch. Ten bucks! More than they used to be, but still a bargain.

I still have a watch I bought in Switzerland decades ago, a Jaeger-LeCoultre. It's too fancy for everyday wear--and now it's probably worth a lot more than I paid for it. The expert at the watch repair shop once told me, "Young man, you have a very fine watch."

I do have to laugh when I ask for the time and someone has to get out their cell phone and open it to check the time.

Meh. So much easier to look at my wrist.

The first thing I got with my first paycheck was a silver/gold Seiko. Not real gold or silver, of course (not with that size paycheck!), but I've loved having it. Unfortunately the pins broke on it, and I keep forgetting to go get it fixed...I should do that.

I'll happily vouch for those cheap Casios, too. Wore one for years of abuse while camping. It even stood up to water during swims and showers, which impressed me.

I think it cost $36. When I lost it, I sent a check to a buddy at an Army post to get another one. The check was cashed, but I never got the watch...

I had to laugh when someone was showing off a Seiko once. When I looked closely, the inscription on the watch was spelled "SIECO." They had gotten a cheap knockoff.
