The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThank you Raine1967 and thank you Thom Hartmann!!!!!!!!
I got to Spain last night (here for work) and too tired to go out for a late dinner, just plopped down in my hotel bed and booted up the old laptop. A rather unusual occurrence: DU mail? to me? That is a rare event, indeed. I opened it up, and Raine1967 let me know that Thom Hartmann--for real--had mentioned my book, The Time Cellar, during the first hour of his program yesterday, March 11. If you can find the podcast, it's 17:30-19:40 more or less.
Someone had given him a heads-up about it somewhere, somehow. He said he didn't recall exactly. An even greater fan of Jefferson than I am, Thom Hartmann has written a whole book about him. I used some of Thom's insights on Jefferson to form his "live" persona in my book, and gave him due credit at the end. He mentioned that on his program, too.
He said it was a "delightful" book, and he "couldn't put it down."
OK, this probably won't get me to the New York Times bestseller list, but such kind words from someone I admire as much as I admire Thom Hartmann is something I find to be an honor beyond any kind of monetary remuneration. Getting such a comment on a nationally syndicated program probably won't be detrimental, either!
My sincere gratitude to DUer Raine1967 for bothering to let me know about this. I would just have fallen asleep thinking about the dinner I never went out to get. Needless to say, I forgot all about food when I heard about this!

(16,066 posts)24-1. Movable Obstruction
A player may take relief, without penalty, from a movable obstruction as follows:
a. If the ball does not lie in or on the obstruction, the obstruction may be removed. If the ball moves, it must be replaced, and there is no penalty, provided that the movement of the ball is directly attributable to the removal of the obstruction. Otherwise, Rule 18-2a applies.
b. If the ball lies in or on the obstruction, the ball may be lifted and the obstruction removed. The ball must through the green or in a hazard be dropped, or on the putting green be placed, as near as possible to the spot directly under the place where the ball lay in or on the obstruction, but not nearer the hole.
The ball may be cleaned when lifted under this Rule.
When a ball is in motion, an obstruction that might influence the movement of the ball, other than equipment of any player or the flagstick when attended, removed or held up, must not be moved.
(Exerting influence on ball see Rule 1-2)
Note: If a ball to be dropped or placed under this Rule is not immediately recoverable, another ball may be substituted.

(54,412 posts)I'd say that anyone trying to remove THAT obstruction on their own has plenty of balls.

(61,695 posts)it makes me happy knowing that you've gotten this on-air mention and Rec by TH. I listen to his show whenever I can, and I've been looking for something fun to read. If TH called it "delightful", then I think I need to check it out!
I'm glad you're having a great start to your trip to Spain.

But I still always enjoy coming back down here. I lived here for a year when I was a teenager and never forgot how to speak Catalan, which is appreciated today as much it was then.
I usually just fly down here for the day and fly back home in the evening. It's only an hour and 45 minutes to fly here from where I live. It's my yearly privilege to be able to come down here at least once a year and hang for a few days, even if most of it is for work, and my wife has come to love this city (Barcelona) as well.

(5,756 posts)Is it available for Kindle?
DFW
(54,412 posts)I kept the price for the Kindle version purposely low in order to make it accessible to a maximum of people. Just look up "The Time Cellar" on Amazon, and it should take you right there.

(60,010 posts)And THIS one sold me:
"As a fan of time travel stories I never thought I'd ever find a novel that could rival the classic "Time and Again" by Jack Finney. I stand corrected.
I can't compare the two stories since they are so very different in nature, but for sheer enjoyment as well as thought-provoking wonder, "The Time Cellar" is quite simply a fantastic companion to Finney."
On the shopping list it goes!

(54,412 posts)Not enough to pick up my book (yet! LOL), but he said the favorable comparison to "Time And Again" was high praise, indeed.
