Other option: run over the pedestrian. Wait for ambulance and police. Bring all traffic to a halt.

which I find very helpful. It tell the impatient idiots coming up on you that a turn is being made, that there is a reason for the slow traffic.

Not everyone does it tho. I find myself doing it now.

and in a sufficiently controlled manner not to take out a row of parked cars or those in the opposite lane-- as happened in my subdivision recently by one who thought he'd just swerve into the area rather than slow down to make the turn.

I had some obnoxiuos little $#!% do that to me in Georgia -- young kid who went out and blew all his money on a muscle car, and thinks he has to drive 50% over the speed limit wherever he goes.
