Petaluma residents up in arms about new McDonald’s ad

http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2015/03/12/petaluma-residents-up-in-arms-about-new-mcdonalds-ad/

Some Petaluma residents are displeased about the national recognition their small town is receiving.

A new McDonald’s commercial for the Egg White Delight McMuffin juxtaposes images of fast food breakfast with the egg-famous town of Petaluma.

“In the quaint town of Petaluma, you’ll find a locally owned restaurant where people come together for a great sandwich,” the voiceover says....

It is worth noting that parts of “Howard the Duck” were filmed in Petaluma so a McDonald’s ad is hardly the worst thing that’s been captured on film in town.

I didn't realize a town could have proprietary rights to . . . well, EVERYTHING that might be filmed in the city limits.

The commercial in current rotation that irks me is the one where Jennie-O ground turkey poaches on a temporary taco stand that people bicycle miles every Sunday to get to. Instead of the tacos they're used to getting, the riders are diverted to the Jennie-O tacos and give smiling testimonials to how superior the Jennie-O tacos are.

I don't hold any brief for or against Jennie-O, but can't a huge corporation sell its product without damaging the sales for some small-time niche entrepreneur?
