2fer (saving space) updates on bell and: Is my heart big enough for this pitiable little dog?!1

The bell is from a flea market, has been semi-screwed to a rotten branch for 15 yrs or more and is like the Yellowstone volcano (will be a catastrophe either very soon or much later, who knows), i.e. would *fall* probably ON somebody. Plus I had removed the CRANK and had forgotten how it was supposed to go. A wonderful website led me to learning the parts and how the crank goes. But even then, a neighbor who knew nothing about bells from a theoretical basis, but *did* know a bit of mechanics got it working. Well, the board onto the tree was my design (he wanted to cement a post into the ground). But then his contribution was excellent: Adding washers to immobilize the bell into the yoke with the clapper free, because with the bell LOOSE it wouldn't ring. Also, after we were through working it together, it didn't ring right because the crank needed to be on the other side, so I had to turn the whole bell around because there is only one side for the screw. Added a lanyard to the crank and voila!1

Now to get myself in trouble again. I don't make a move without throwing myself on the whats-it of the Lounge (well, that's a lie as evidenced by my having to Self-Delete aplenty), so, previously, I asked whether to take on a third little dog. A majority of two or so advised that caring for three dogs isn't much harder than two. Well, the #3 is a puppy and it is a totally DELICATE little thing, appears to be scared to death, and looks malnourished. Now, before I'm branded this or that, when the prospect was landed on me it was from acquaintances who wanted to get rid of it and induced me on the basis of how I love (my) dogs ergo I should take all the dogs anywhere. I hesitated and accepted it PROVISIONALLY. Well, the little thing threw my two dogs into a tizzy of insecurity, besides that its underweight made me think my dogs are morbidly obese, such that I'm going to have to figure out how to put them on a diet. There are a couple of options for further adoption by others, but one has a 4yrs old boy who plays really rough. I'm afraid to condition it to my indulgence because if somebody else takes it the dog is going to be miserable by comparison. I don't even know what I'm asking but surely Lounge will figure something out!1

It sure is cute. It doesn't seem malnourished, unless you can see its ribs (which I do not in the picture). If you can just feel the ribs, that is perfect. Puppies tend to be skinny when they are out of the roly-poly stage. The older ones don't seem obese from the photo. But your vet is the best judge of that.

Why didn't the people want it anymore? Isn't it housebroken?

Hard to tell if the older ones will come around as they seem inseparable. They might learn to tolerate the newbie, but it might never be part of their tight-knit circle. (That is what happened with my third one.) Be prepared for some assertive behavior from one of the older dogs and some shyness from the baby. It's a pack dynamic. You can't do much about that except keep alert that no one gets injured if it gets too quarrelsome.

Such a tiny pup should not be in a home with young children. It will definitely get hurt. This baby is going to need lots of very precious attention.

Good luck!
