Walking Dead spin-off approved for two seasons

The Walking Dead Spinoff Finds Home at AMC – Ordered for Two Seasons

After much anticipation, The Walking Dead spinoff officially has a home! With recent casting announcements, as well as news that the spinoff pilot had been filmed but the series had not yet been picked up by a network, AMC announced today that Season 1 of the new zombie drama would be given a 6 episode order in 2015, with the second season slated for 2016. The first six episode season is set to launch in late summer. Yes, that means two bouts of The Walking Dead in 2015!

The companion series’ pilot, alleged to be titled ‘Fear The Walking Dead’, will be set in Los Angeles at the onset of the zombie outbreak – presumably at the same time period in which Rick is in a coma in the mother show. The spinoff is set to star Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, and Alycia Debnam Carey.

Recently, part of the pilot episode script was leaked online – which provided some details about the story. Additionally, Nerdist recently announced that one of the cast members from the spin-off would be featured in a multi-episode spread during Season 6 of The Walking Dead.

Are you excited for The Walking Dead spinoff series, or do you fear that it will take away from the quality and popularity of the mother show? Will Robert Kirkman’s attention be spread too thin, impacting both shows negatively? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments section below!
