I never speak with my son-in-law (apparently his choice) and neither one of us has gone away. He and my daughter and granddaughter live with me.

In the beginning, he would speak with me now and again. In the past 8 years or so, he never speaks to me and often leaves the room when I come in. He has a home office and is his office much of the time. For a couple of years, I tried to strike up conversations but when I got nothing but a one-word reply, a grunt, or more often, no reply at all, I quit. We don't argue and he's not in my face about anything so it isn't difficult to just ignore him. My daughter pretends it isn't happening.

It's just like living alone. I'm convinced that if I were to drop to the floor with a heart attack or stroke, he would have a sudden urge to go out for pizza.
