I was shortchanged because the money amounts were in the wrong slots - I was quickly reimbursed

Thanks for sharing. I don't like how they totally avoided using the phrase "temporary" reimbursement pending outcome of the investigation. They just said "reimbursement". Then, I got the email and it just has a totally different tone.

the money in the machine and what is dispensed is accounted for - they should be able to quickly determine a discrepancy

I've been "temporarily" reimbursed twice and each time it was quickly resolved in my favor.

and the question WOULD YOU LIKE ANOTHER TRANSACTION on the screen? I replied no, took the card, proceeded with my transaction, and found the card owner later (he wasn't even aware he had left it)

Bank was closed so I dropped it off at the bank a couple days later.

Now our ATMs do a swipe thing. No more leaving the card in the slot. And it times out eventually.

They know exactly how much money was in the ATM and how much was supposed to have been withdrawn. There will be a discrepancy that indicates the error.
