How are your New Year's resolutions coming along?

If you made any, how are you doing?

I have gotten nowhere with the Spanish. The system I got for Christmas really requires me to be in front of the computer or the workbook while I was hoping to have CD's to listen to in the car.

My junk room is about a third better than it was. I have been shredding and donating and sorting but I have created a lot of piles that will require more sorting and organizing. So I am not where I wanted to be with that.

I am walking more than I was and getting to the gym at least once a week. My pain heel is gone but I have not attempted much running except for very small sprints at the gym. I am scared to injure myself again to the point of not being able to get my regular walks in.

On a personal level, I have sent more letters and cards to friends in other places. But I have cut ties with some people I used to be close to and I am still not sure how I feel about it. In some ways, the stress of dealing with them is gone but the friendship part is gone too.

How about you?

One of my co-workers got a non-invasive lap band surgery (no overnight stay) and he's eating like 1/10th of what he used to eat. I'm determined not to be the only fat b@stard left in the office now.

Went back to the gym almost 2 months now & the wife is dropping compliments. She doesn't do that to feed my ego.

I've been really consistent and slowly increasing the weights of the dumbells. One of their trainers complimented my calves, which is one of my fav parts to train, go figure. My diet has gotten better, but a 6 pack is not a do-or-die desire. I have a long way to go before I go shirt-less outside the bathroom.

I went back to hitting the heavy bag recently & I realized how much I miss boxing training. I'm about to put my daughter in a Muay Thai class for kids. Yeah, I up to something.

My guitars still sit in the closet though. But no new pedals until I'm back into practicing my pentatonic scales on a regular!

Still want to address a few other things but overall I'm feeling good about things overall.

Consistency is key. Too many people want results NOW and they end up giving up altogether at some point. We have made Sunday mornings our gym day and then I go other times as I can. It's less pressure than saying I'm going to go every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.

However, I have NO upper arm strength! I mean, I am not making any progress with that. I have never had any upper arm strength. I have been able to increase the weights on all the other machines I use but the damn arm extensions have gone nowhere. I am too embarrassed to admit how little weight I struggle to lift. I'm not ever gonna have Michelle Obama arms but dang it!

Does your wife workout too? I think I am better about going when my husband drags me there.

I appreciate that she's super busy with her new job/kids/etc. I'm hoping that I become an example so that she'll get motivated to jump in & do something.

My daughter wants to try the Muay Thai & my plan is that the wife will try the adult class. The girls in the adult class are in just brilliant shape, with no weight training or spending countless hours on some kind of hamster wheel. The girls are not only looking super-fit, but they most certainly could do serious, serious damage on any fool who doesn't show proper respect.

I think a class setting, making short bursts of contact with the bag/pads & actually breaking a real sweat in a completely unique activity will light her desire to get fit.

I try to go 6 days a week. I'll take Mondays off because too many people go to the gym on Mondays because of their weekends of shame.

Get your papers in order for that passport. I had mine stolen in Torino, Italy and had to go to Milan get a replacement at the consulate there, which was a pain in the butt. If you are traveling, be sure and put your passport in the safe in your hotel room (if that's where you are staying). DO NOT carry it around...
