The falling star may be part of the Eta Aquarids meteor shower that is set to peak May 6, but, according to EarthSky.org, since the shower has a relatively broad peak, meteors may fly before the predicted date.

they say it was around 9:30 pm. It happened just a minute or two before I posted about it.
I'm in Maine, so the west/southwest view makes sense!
It was humongous. Not as big as the full moon, but humongous!!!
Luna missed it, but Jakey jumped up and started growling at it

the meteor show is just beginning.
Happily, a huge one is rare.
I still have mental pics of that one in Russia a couple years ago...it might still be on You Tube. Incredible sounds from it.
