i'm on the porch, nicely buzzed after a relaxing day. a little storm has rolled in and the wind dropped the temperature pretty quickly, but not enough to chase me inside. it smells of lilac and rain out here and i can't hear the traffic over the music in my headphones.
i've been feeding this girl for a few years now and she was nice enough to pose for me. i've always kept food out for the squirrels, jays and sparrows, so we're old friends. my husband says he sometimes sees raccoons come by in the middle of the night, but i haven't seen them anywhere other than the dumpster on the other side of the complex. sometimes i get doves in the summer. it's my little urban zoo and it makes me happy.
things may not be all sunshine and roses, but times like now remind me that it's not all hopeless bullshit.
happy saturday, lounge

(149,698 posts)I really like these! She obviously trusts you, since she's getting so up close and eating what you've given her.
You're doing a great job with your camera too...
I love the one where she's holding the peanut!
Happy Saturday, indeed!

(10,418 posts)I'm starting to feel age slip into my bones. At 42, it seems like I might be too young for that. But that's for the doctors to decide. It's probably not an immediate problem. My next post won't be from a hospital bed. It makes me ponder things that most people my age probably don't worry about, though.
However, the beauty and wonder of consciousness is a thing to behold no matter where you are in life. In our youth, we often take it for granted. We don't give it a second thought. Or even a first thought. People like you and me, though, have a greater appreciation of awareness even at a relatively young age. We know how to appreciate the beauty of what simply is. We understand the glory of awakening to another day.
Peace.

(10,998 posts)Happy Spring here in NM too. Russian Olive trees (not native to NM) smelling delicious. We have a wild baby bunny in our backyard. She almost ran over my foot trying to outrun the dog.

(55,019 posts)it was a nice evening here too. left over pizza and a couple of peach ales from Four Peaks Brewery up in Tempe. First beer I think I have had in months. Not too bad. I was 0 for 2 on trying mojitos the last few weeks. first one was didn't have enough sugar and the next was short on lime juice so the other day I said fuck it and bought myself some beer.
That bottle of rum is getting pretty old. Hell one six pack of soda water had eaten through the cans
Old age sucks but the liquor budget sure has gone down.

(28,126 posts)And she looks as if she could be nursing mom, just like one of ours. The nipples show much more than they do on the other squirrels.
I feed a crew of at least 5 squirrels little peanut butter sandwiches every day. We have to buy one of those long but cheap loafs of white bread, along with a jar of store-brand peanut butter every week. I cut each sandwich into 16 little bites, and end up tossing out ~32 tiny bite-sized sandwiches a day. Oh, they do come to the kitchen window and door to beg. They have me trained well. But it's fun!
One of my favorite little guys went missing and I think one of the hawks got it. A few weeks ago I caught a damn hawk sitting on our deck railing waiting for our squirrels to show up! I got a good pic of him (but don't have a link to post it with) before we chased him away.
Your pics are truly impressive!
