UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATEGuys - THANK YOU AGAIN! We held on!!! Thanks to YOU!!! I hoped that ACIDIC's video could stay in the Top Ten, AND YOU HELPED MAKE THAT HAPPEN!!!!
We held at #5 despite the competition! WE SURVIVED!!!! So we're still in there pitching for another week, now that another battled begins. So if you have a moment and nothing else to do, maybe you'll help us hang on in THIS round, too? Same routine. If you can, that is WUNNNNNNNderful. If not - SOOOOOO grateful for the help you already gave us on this!
-----------
To revisit...
I try not to ask for too much around here, especially since others here have so much more important, more urgent, and more critical needs that need top priority attention. This is just a little request, and certainly no life-or-death type of thing.
But I figured, it couldn't hurt to ask (again).
My kid's band, ACIDIC, is in a music video battle on Loudwire.com - and their video, "Chicago," needs votes! You can only vote once an hour and - even with a bunch of visitors here at the house, all with their laptops, evidently this voting looks at only the server or whatever - so whenever I vote (or ONE other person here does), that kills any chance that everybody else here can vote that hour, in their own right.
http://loudwire.com/battle-royale-the-darkness-papa-roach-video-countdown/
If you have a moment, vote for ACIDIC's "Chicago" video. Since they made it to the Top Ten, that means their video is viewable right there on the Loudwire.com page with videos from a LOT bigger bands, and you don't even have to search for it. ACIDIC SURVIVED!!!! We're still at #5 and holding - at least for now.
http://loudwire.com/battle-royale-the-darkness-papa-roach-video-countdown/
Please forgive me for begging, because I know it certainly does NOT outrank the far-more-serious appeals for help that have been posted here on DU. But it's pretty easy and straightforward, and it doesn't cost anything, either. Plus - you might enjoy the video! It's PG-rated - no dirty words, and it can be played in anyone's presence.
THANK YOU! AGAIN. Just ... THANK YOU!
You guys ROCK!!!!

(81,318 posts)THANK YOU!!! Our needs are simple - all we need to do is keep them in the Top Ten. That keeps the imaging going, too. There we are, keeping up with the big guys and hot young things like Halestorm, Tom Keifer, Papa Roach, The Darkness, and December in Red. That we're able to compete at their level and even beat some of 'em really speaks for ACIDIC!
I appreciate this SOOOOOO much! I know it doesn't stack up one bit against some of the needs expressed here that are really serious and legitimate and deserving of much more important attention. But it's our little thing, and yes, it IS easy!
The lead singer is my kid.
If you think of it again today or later in the week, please by all means vote again! I try to do it every hour or so - but then again, I do need to sleep a little...

(37,457 posts)It's tracking your IP address, so you can only use that IP address once per hour.
So, you need a new IP address. The one method that's a bit of a long shot is turning off your cable modem for several minutes (or disconnecting it from the internet) and then turning it back on. If your cable modem is offline long enough, your ISP will give you a new IP address.
Let me scratch my head a bit more. If you're going to try this, I'd leave it off for at least 15 minutes. Yes, a PITA.
steve2470
(37,457 posts)The Starbucks will have a different IP address. Hell, if you're really energetic and have time and money to spare, you can drive around town and hit all the wifi spots!

(81,318 posts)I SOOOO appreciate this! And I try not to bother DU with too many band-related requests. Everybody is busy and focused on other things - sometimes things that are a LOT more important and critical. But in one post recently, I mentioned that sometimes everybody needs a little frippery to get away from the more serious cares and concerns. So how 'bout a little rock band in a big competition then?

(3,747 posts)I remember you posting or sending me a video of them a while back--their sound has definitely matured. That was really good. Let me know if they're ever up in Seattle!
And for the record, they are definitely better than at least the "top" two bands, though I didn't listen to the others
calimary
(81,318 posts)I certainly think they're better than the top two bands - but I'm BIASED AS ALL HELL!!!!!
They're supposed to be in Spokane on August 14th for 2Broke 2Rock - which KHTQ up there co-sponsors. The station buys out the Knitting Factory for the night and all their listeners get in free and pack the place and go nuts - and the station books some great bands. We're already locked in!
Here's what happened at one of 'em:

(81,318 posts)Hope you liked it! I look through some of these videos and, man, things have certainly evolved since I was young and rockin' out.
The guitar player and bass player usually take their shirts off in the middle of the show. The girls like that. I was reading on Facebook and saw a thread of posts that really made me grin. It was a bunch of girls. One of 'em posted a couple of photos of the boys onstage. Yep the shirts were off. She was talking back and forth with a friend who had missed the show and commented on the photos - "maybe I need to go check them out next time they play here!" She's right, too!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Cannot say that often enough. Either here - OR anywhere else on this board.
I'm really proud of them. Nice thing about the video is you can kinda see what they're like onstage. Except - nobody took his shirt off. The guitarist, Josh, and the bass player, Max, do that and it's pretty doggone nice. ACIDIC does a fun show. What I like is - checking out the audience when I'm at one of their shows. Everybody's smiling! Everybody's heads are bobbing along with the beat, hands in the air, responding. They do one cover - that KILLS. "Come Together" by the Beatles (personally makes me VERY proud - as a longtime Beatlemaniac. They're playing one of my songs! And doing it up First Class-style). I feel like that's one little bit of evidence that I did a good job as a mother. Played 'em both the Beatles in the car. And a bunch of other stuff too. But the BEATLES. And when my kid turns out to be a musician, that seems like it might have been one essential aspect of his early childhood education, to me. But then, I'm kinda biased. Seems to me every kid ought to get a little bit of exposure to the Beatles. Beatles music has influenced and informed EVERY rocker who's ever walked the earth after them.

(81,318 posts)They leave today (Monday the 11th) to go back up north to finish the brief tour with the bands Royal Bliss and Wayland. This past weekend was kinda ridiculous. TWO bands sidelined for mechanical trouble in their tour vans - including us. Wayland lost the whole weekend. So did ACIDIC. For want of a missing hose!
We had a couple of frustrated promoters lamenting how this whole season in that area has been almost cursed! Another cool band, Eve to Adam, wound up having to cancel their whole tour through there. Just one of those things! Just fluke after fluke after fluke. And these are some good promoters. They don't mess up. DAYUM - I suspect the boys might be trying to cook up some surprise for the fans in one of those communities that saw so many of the shows scheduled to come through town get canceled. There are some smaller cities that are not exactly "go-to" places for the bigger bands and bigger concerts and festivals. But THOSE are the EXACT places where there are so many rock fans just almost starving for some great entertainment to visit. Kinda doesn't seem fair. They deserve the Rolling Stones and the Supremes and Elvis and James Brown and Beyonce! They're some of the best crowds in the world! They really appreciate it when somebody comes through town and puts on a great show.
ACIDIC does enjoy going to those places - as often as possible. We are not the Rolling Stones and Supremes and Elvis and James Brown and Beyonce. But our boys do go all out onstage! Even off stage. When they play "Come Together," Michael grabs his wireless mic and leaves the stage and prances around in the audience and vamps with people. Usually, during the chorus, he'll point the mic at some fan and have the fan sing it. It's really great! Lots of interaction.

(5,020 posts)and will try to remember to vote again.
I like their sound - reminds me a bit of Finger Eleven
calimary
(81,318 posts)Their sound has grown and evolved as they've grown, themselves. Last time they had a popular record, lots of people thought it sounded a lot like Jane's Addiction - which was funny because we didn't know a lot about Jane's Addiction back when we were playing our rock music in the car for both kids. When the band was getting started, Michael was a HUGE Green Day fan, and a lot of what he wrote did sound a lot like Billie Joe Armstrong. Michael found Green Day himself and introduced them to US, instead of it being us introducing him to some band. He even looked a little bit like Billie Joe Armstrong. People would comment on that, too.
Lately, though, with this album, we're not getting as much of the flat-out "that sounds just like so-n-so" anymore. There are always reminders of other stuff - like what you have expressed. I'll have to check out Finger Eleven. Subtle influences are everywhere. But no more sound-alikes. They've finally begun to develop their own sound! Everybody I've met along this path is influenced by the other bands they like - either famous bands or bands they grew up listening to, or local bands they like or other mid-level bands they've made friends with on tour.

FWIW I wasn't into any particular song over there, most of them sounded pretty 'generic'. Your son's band tied with one other in first place for me, they both stood out from the others so my vote was actually quite honest. You are of course welcome for what little help I provided. I'm gonna HAVE TO keep this thread. No way can I lose track of it. I told Michael that I invited DU to vote and that you guys were doing so. He was really happy to hear that. We do try to keep politics out of the band part. I even stopped posting a lot of stuff on my own Facebook page. The boys have fans in all parts of the country by now. Too bad they can't get to 'em as often as they'd like! And I sure don't want my own sometimes rather strident views to alienate fans of the band! I will say in some cases that it's been a reality check almost like a punch in the nose sometimes. It helps to remind me that not all red-staters are the nincompoops about whom I'm sometimes given to generalizing. I've found that the fan base is a bunch of really nice people. At least those with whom I've had encounters, either because I met them or because I've had Facebook conversations or message traffic with them. And I need that. They're just very dear - all the moreso because they love my kid's band.

(81,318 posts)I realize there's quite a spread here on DU of people who prefer other music, people who like rock, people like classic rock, so ACIDIC's music is not gonna be to every last individual's taste here. I happen to like it. But I'm biased as all hell! Even so, I think I'd still like it even if I had no relation to or involvement with the band.
BTW - if you'd like to preview the album, go here:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/creatures/id978924913
This is iTunes. you can sample all the songs if you just hover over each one with your cursor, and then click. It won't play the whole thing but you'll get a good idea of what each song sounds like.
I'd recommend Track 11, "Miles from Home," because I think it's the prettiest song on the album. It's a ballad, definitely a "chick song," and I'd guess ANYBODY of any stripe and any music preference would find it acceptable - from preschoolers at nap time to Great Grandma and Great Grandpa.

We're always on the lookout for friend-bands. Where they're established versus where we're established and how could we help each other and all that...

(46,436 posts)she's doing country and western in Denver with her newly formed band called "Shotgun Lullaby." Their first gig was this past weekend at the Toad Tavern. Before she moved down there, she and her ex-husband (lead guitar) had a rock group up here called "Mother of Pearl," and they played at dives and bars all around Alaska for several years. They billed themselves as "40 years of rock and roll" and could cover almost anything from C&W to heavy metal, plus they wrote some stuff. She's a singer and sounds somewhat like Ann Wilson, I think.
Here's a page for them. My favorite song on here is Nemesis. http://www.reverbnation.com/thebandmotherofpearl
I've downloaded a much better recording of that song onto my iPod, but I can't remember where from. It wasn't iTunes. Anyway, you get the idea.
But now she's sounding more like Martina McBride. LOL.

(81,318 posts)Okay, so here's my problem. And as problems go, this is a seriously fantastic "problem" to have.
Let's just say this is yet another reason why I love DU.
There are so many posts here that I don't like the idea of just saying "Thank You" or some other brief little comments. I find myself wanting to put more into it. To honor every response with a personal message. This is all so anonymous, this board and other such online communities. We all inter-relate via computer keyboards, not face-to-face or even at some meeting or organized get-together (which I'd love to see happen, especially here in SoCal. So I find myself wanting to reach out just a wee bit more, and make it a little more personal. Cuz just a simple thank-you or one line that starts sounding kinda trite after awhile because I momentarily can't think of a different way to put it - simply doesn't do justice to how important this is to me. I can't tell you how much I've learned and about which I've been educated since I first found this place. I want to give back. I want to say thank you. I want to let you know how much I appreciate this. Whether it was discovering that there were other people who felt the same way I did about bush/cheney stealing the election from Al Gore, or how many people kept me company after my mom died, or how many people were so enthusiastic and eager to contribute to the discussion when I posted about finding my biological siblings. I just appreciate this - AND you - so much. And the fact that you're coming out like this for my kid - blows my mind.

It's like - "DON'T get me STARTED!!!!!!!" GRRRRRRR!!!!!

What does your kid play? Is he/she in a band too? I've run into several DUers here in the same "club." Do you suppose maybe we should start a DU group about it? Ahhh... radio. Whole 'nuther story! But we do have radio to thank for a lot of what's happening now. The song "Chicago", whose video is part of this Battle Royale, is getting more spins on rock radio in many different parts of the country now! So hanging in there in this kind of competition keeps the song just that much more in front of people, I'm guessing. More people get to hear it because they see the video, and perhaps then request the song on their local rock station.
It can only help.

(81,318 posts)so supportive and dedicated - ACIDIC has stayed in the Top Ten for another week (THIRD one now!) and our video is getting more views as a result. That gives us talking points for local radio and venues where we want to book the band, and even promoting sales of the album and downloads of the single. ALL OF THAT helps.
We're this little DIY indie band that doesn't have a record label and doesn't have the financial clout of some of those other bigger bands in this competition. Halestorm, Papa Roach, Slash, Tom Keifer (was lead singer for Cinderella), The Darkness, Godsmack, and Three Days Grace - they all have promotional and industry machinery and major funding and investors behind them. We do not. So it's YOU GUYS who have our back and and have such faith in us - THAT is what is keeping us in the fight! And I think that's pretty damn impressive! We couldn't compete in their league - AT ALL, if it weren't for people like you guys.
