I have a full-sized Dalek in my bedroom, but no, I'm not a nerd. I'm not, I say! Am Not!

I got it nearly 30 years ago from a game shop that went out of business. I think I paid $100 for it.

It's hollow but there are no controls for a midget to operate, sadly, so it's only a replica.

Still, though, what a way to show any potential dates that I was a serious young man with marriage potential, eh? I'm sure the lengthy period of enforced abstinence was a mere coincidence.

Have a motion sensor in it, connected to a digital recording of "Exterminate!"

Would-be burglar does a beautiful 180 degree turn and runs out of your place at warp 10.

But of course, it would only really be effective on Dr. Who fans, and Dr Who fans are - of course - morally superior people who wouldn't be engaged in burglary in the first place.

"Run up the stairs, mate! They won't be able to follow you up the stairs!"
