He is the alpha bird for sure. I have ducks, chickens, the mean rooster I just posted, and a guinea hen.

Bogart is the boss. He has a sweet lady too. She is his second wife, sadly, thanks to a predator. This is him with Bacall, his first love.

Henry is a mean, mean rooster, and he's just lucky that I find it difficult to kill things.

Bogart generally walks beside me wherever I go, and Henry will not mess with Bogart. However, if he sees me alone, he attacks and has drawn blood on several occasions.

All my critters are free range, but I built a special enclosure just for Henry where he can be incarcerated when he acts up. It's very large, and actually he could easily get out if he had half a brain. The chickens come and go from there, but doofus Henry stays in and crows.

I love my feathered friends. These are my Cayuga ducks as ducklings, or as I called them, the darklings. I got them because of their beautiful color. We refer to them as the cougars because it's easier to say than Cayuga.

But he's so handsome that I can't bear to think of getting rid of him.

Plus his girlfriend, the guinea hen, loves him dearly:

Your crew are characters!

I wrote a lot of grants for a living history museum nearby and the farm goose had to be locked up when school groups came by - he was pretty nasty. I made sure to keep a wide, very wide berth if I saw him in the yard.

When the guy brought my tractor back from its tune-up, Bogart went for him.

I apologized, and this old country boy just looked at me and drawled, "oh darlin', I been attacked by geese before..." Cracked me up.

What's funny is when Bogart goes after Henry - grabs hold of his tail feathers while Henry runs trying to get away. It's hysterical.

I've tried everything with him and basically just keep my distance lol.

He's a real chicken because he always attacks from behind. The guinea hen is his wing man.

They're both a pain in the butt.

A similar snake to this one tried to eat one of my black ducks a week ago.

Completely wrapped around the silly duck. The duck survived, but if I hadn't seen them in time...

I have a dove nest that I have to guard from time to time because a clever black snake has figured it out.

Yes, I'm amazed at the quality of the I-phone photos.

But, the birds and the farm are so beautiful...it's hard to go wrong.

Though somehow selfies don't look nearly so good...
