Can someone give me instructions on how to post a picture from an online source? ...

I've tried the "Right Click", "Copy" thing ... and it's been a crap shoot ... sometime when a post it, I get the picture, most times I just get the link and sometimes, I get a dead link?

I Right Click on the image, and don't see a "Copy Image URL" option ... just "Copy" and Copy Shortcut" options

I don't use those, but check to make sure that you have set your account on the site to allow your pictures to been seen by the public.

Maybe someone here with more knowledge - such as those in the Photography or Computer groups - could give you specifics for whatever site you are using to host your pictures.

Copy image location usually works. Please give an url example so we can all make different suggestions.

In one case when someone posted here about the same problem, I found that clicking on the image at the source brought up another page with the image alone and a different url that DID work to display the image at DU. I don't think it's very common but I have encountered the same thing 2 or 3 times, usually at a news site.

Certainly *.jpg but I think *.png and maybe *.bmp won't auto display. ATA to be sure.

Right click on the image.
If the pop up menu shows "View image info", left click on that.
It may take a few seconds, but you should get another menu with the image info highlighted.
Right click on that and then left click on the next menu "copy".
Go to DU and right click, then left click on "paste".
Works for me.
Most of the time.

The link may have characters in it DU doesn't recognize. The picture may not be in the right format. The site where the picture resides may have restrictions on hotlinking.

What you can do in most situations is download the picture to your local computer, upload it to imgur.com, and then cut and paste the hotlink from there. You don't need an account to upload to imgur.
