I'm also signed up for that Windows 10 upgrade at the end of the month.

But this is a decent laptop, and I get around the erratic touchpad by using a Bluetooth mouse.

4. What is the Windows 10 upgrade all about?

I mean, it seems that the higher the number, the worse the performance. I have Windows 7 and I'm not very happy with it. I've heard people say Windows 8 isn't so great either. (Did they skip Windows 9?)
I'm glad it's working well for you. Keep us posted if that changes!

3. My 7-year old Toshiba Satellite still works great, as does my 13-year old Toshiba Satellite.

Hope I don't need a new one soon, but when I do, it'll be a Toshiba.

Doesn't do anything else.

A friend of my younger sister who is a computer whiz is going to take a look at it, see if it can be fixed.

Afterwards I don't know, probably sell the old one.

13. Sounds like either a classic Windows boot glitch or a failing hard drive.

A clean reinstall should fix it if it's glitched. A new drive and install should fix it if it's the drive.
