Gotta buy one this weekend and would appreciate any recommendations

(20,176 posts)My only complaint is that it eats black ink. I almost need a new black cartridge and I doubt I've printed 200 pages since I got it.
It was cheap, works well, easy to set-up, has a built in scanner/copier and configures easily to work as a network printer. Print quality is great. Unit is compact and quiet.

(34,136 posts)You'll probably get more pages out of a regular one. Some HP printer models have high capacity cartridges available that give even more pages per cartridge and those are worth looking for.

(42,770 posts)I use Ink Jet Superstore -- compatibles for $3 each and they have more ink in them than the manufacturers cartridges.

(20,176 posts)Though it has service issues that I knew about when I bought it, it was a clearance model that was being discontinued because they knew it had issues. So it was less than half-price and they fixed the issue with the GPU when it arose. Threw some extra RAM in it, attached an external HD and I'm happy.

(12,413 posts)Seamless install, excellent scans with file extension and location choices. Use it in my office with my HP Pavillion. My Apple ProBook found it, installed the drives, and prints from any room in the house effortlessly as well.

(53,475 posts)scan, copy, fax and wireless printing, reliable and has the PPM duty cycle I need. It's also mucho easier on toner than the circa 2002 HP "all in one" that it replaced (and cost 1/4 as much!).

(42,770 posts)the connection goes in and out and your doc starts and stops.

(42,770 posts)to a HP 6600 and I just set it up. All by my lonesome. It was relatively
easy.
Guess you have to be careful what you wish for. Unless I am missing
something, didn't realize you could never again just hit "print". It
means you have to save every doc of any sort to be able to
attach it to the email to eprint?
Printing a doc, was like 2 paragraphs. I think I will miss just
hitting print page on say, a travel itinerary. Guess I will
have to figure out how to save a webpage as a doc.
learning experience. haha

(42,770 posts)the instruction book never once said that. Guess you only use the eprint...sending a doc through
email if you are away from your printer?

(17,742 posts)it is next door at my neighbor's house. I usually print out a cover sheet with my address so they know where to send it.
(and *that* is why I don't actually use wireless! I think that stuff really happens.)

(17,340 posts)B&W laser printer, replacing an eight year old Brother printer that wasn't wireless.
This one is wireless, prints both sides if requested and goes into a power saving sleep mode 10 mins after you print.
Love it.
It took all of 15 minutes to set up with our MacBooks. Might take a little longer with Windows but I'm not sure.

(47,675 posts)HP makes the most reliable ones and I beat the crap out of printers. Just get the model that fits your needs. They are dirt cheap because pretty much anyone is giving away the printer - they make their money on the ink cartridges.

(13,920 posts)Great little printer. I can replace the whole ink set for 10 bucks with the help of ebay. Prints with no issues. Every month or so I have to restart the router to clear some sort of wireless connection snag. But I think thats the router, not the printer, since all my internet browsing seems to slow about that point.

(36,827 posts)I have a HL-5370DW (black and white laser duplex printer) which works like a charm. It was easy to set up and has been working great for the last two years or so without a hitch. I recently got a MFC-J425W after my HP multifunction color printer crapped out after less than a year.
What I like about the Brother printers is they are relatively cheap, seem to be highly reliable, and ink/toner is available aftermarket or OEM at reasonable prices.
We have quite a few Lexmark printers of many various types at work which I would highly NOT recommend.

My best luck has been with Epson and Samsung.

(366 posts)I am very pleased with this printer. Easy set-up, black and white laser, and will do duplex copy.
