The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWhat's the longest you've ever had to wait for an LP to be released as a CD ?
Eugene Rousseau's wonderful "Saxophone Concertos" album was recorded in 1971, and I bought it in vinyl. But DGG didn't re-release it on CD until 1997 -- a gap of 26 years.
Lew Tabackin's "Rites of Pan" was released in 1977 and reissued on CD in 2009. That's 32 years.
Maynard Ferguson's "MF Horn 4&5: Live at Jimmy's" was released on CD in 2007 -- just a few month's after Maynard's death. (Way to go, Columbia/Sony.) The LP was released in 1974, and features one of his very best bands ever. That's 33 years.
Toshiko Akiyoshi's "Notorious Tourist From the East" was released in 1978 by Inner City Records. AFAIK it has never been reissued. The TA/LT Big Band album "Road Time" was released in 1976 and has likewise never been released on CD. The only copies that I have are on promotional LP's (clearly stamped "Not For Resale" that I acquired from used record stores. The album was Grammy-nominated, and was the band's first live recording. Most of their other albums have been re-released on CD, including some that didn't do as well with either critics or consumers. Sad to see how capricious the process of determining what gets reissued and what doesn't is.
