grandpa passed last night
dad called me as i was getting ready for bed last night. we're going to leave tomorrow rather than today and get back here on saturday. i am sad that i did not get to say goodbye, but i am happy that he did not linger any longer than he did. now i get to brace myself for the insanity that is my father's neurotic family, but dad, sister and i will band together to get through this alive. at least i will get real deli food and cookies out of this trip.

Best wishes and good luck on the trip. I must admit that when my brother passed a few years ago, his kids that had been feuding forever were actually civil to each other when making funeral arrangements. Probably a blessing that my brother had little property to fight over. Families can be so weird. But then, sometimes they surprise you.

And may your grandpa rest in peace. He is free from suffering at last.

I lost my grandma in March, after a long-ish battle with Lewy-Body dementia. I hope you have some peace and comfort, neurotic family notwithstanding.
