My rules on drinking, (OK, some of them are smouched from H.L. Mencken )
1: Never drink if you've got a job of work to do.
2: Never drink alone. If you're lunching or dining alone, you're not drinking alone.
3: Never drink by daylight, except with meals.
4: Never drink and drive.
5: Never drink for any reason than you want the liquor. Don't drink to change your mood, to feel better, to keep somebody company.
6: If you find yourself thinking "What else can I spend this money on?" spend the money on that something else.
7: Be flexible in your tastes, but never drink anything you don't like. One pint of a beer you really like is better than a six of something you hate.
8: Alcohol does not make you Superman, James Bond, Frank Sinatra or Eric Clapton. Remember that.
BTW I drink wine, beer or cocktails with and after dinner every night, beer on hot days and with lunch if I'm not working that day.
Cousin Gary sent me these.
I agree with them.

(10,418 posts)Y'know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
I couldn't help but channel some George Thoroughgood there (I think that's how you spell his name).
My rules are:
1. Don't drink more than two drinks a day through the week. I have to get up very early for work and I drive for a living, so I usually abstain totally when I have to work the next day.
2. Don't drink and drive.
3. Know your limit. Don't get sloppy drunk. If you find yourself doing things when drunk that you wouldn't ordinarily do when sober, you have gone beyond your limit. Time to dial it back some.
4. Never give alcohol to underage people. When I was a kid, we knew a few guys who were old enough to buy booze who would buy for us. That was a very bad move on their part and could have gotten them into a lot of trouble.
5. Beer only for me. It's the only form of alcohol I really like and it doesn't make me sick. If I'm staying within my limit (which is considerable to most people...I am large) I don't even get a hangover with beer.
6. Never turn down free beer as long as consuming it will not put you into violation of any of the above rules.
