(19,089 posts)I'm 2 years and 3 months into the 5:2 Fast Diet, and hoping to hit -98 lbs tomorrow morning ...
Stay with it, and you will be rewarded with a more positive self image and more bounce in every step ...
Definitely consider a strength training program to rebuild your musculature ... If you are older, like I am, your muscles are probably atrophied (mine are/were) ...
The larger or bulkier muscles are, the more calories they consume at rest ... It's the best way (that I know of) to increase your basal metabolic rate (or BMR .. I.E. your metabolism) ...
I'm losing about 3.5 pounds per month ... Good luck ...

(2,560 posts)I used to be so fit - running every day, martial arts 4 days a week, soccer 3 days a week, weights 5 days a week.
But you get out of the habit. Marriage, kids. And age kicks in.
I'm blaming no-one but myself. if time travel existed, my younger me would have given my older me a real kick up the bum.
The last few years I've had health problems. Nothing dangerous, just inconvenient. So, I'm looking to get back into the swing. I didn't even know what the 5:2 diet was or is. But it looks pretty good to even very skeptical me.
So, congratulations on your weight loss. And I also think that's a very good weight loss RATE! Not too much, too quickly. Well done.

(118,659 posts)Eat normally the rest of the time. I end up fasting on the day of the week that are the same week by week. So it is easy to organize. And because you eat normally in between fast days your body does not go into starvation mode and hold onto the fat. I'm not good at sticking to something. This works because I only have to do it one day at a time.

(63,221 posts)I really need to get motivated. I was always able to pretty much eat whatever I wanted and not gain weight, but once I hit a certain age, suddenly the weight just started creeping on. I'm just not comfortable in my skin anymore.
