I'm not really into the VMAs or celebrity feuds, but I've been searching, trying to find the meaning of this phrase which has become a meme since Sunday night , but I'm finding nothing.
"What's good?"
It supposedly DOESN'T mean "What's up?" or "What's going on" or similar greetings as indicated at different urban dictionary-like sites.
I've seen it referred to as New York slang, but the meaning of it is still lost on me. I don't know why it's bugging me so much, but it is. I want to know what it means...lol.
If you want the backstory, you can see the article below which is really good as it addresses the whole "tone policing" issue. (I did follow the link to the Yesha Callahan piece, btw, but it didn't elaborate on the meaning at all.)
If you can enlighten me, thanks.
If someone can get me a hoodie with those last three unforgettable words emblazoned on it, youll have my endless gratitude.
You may wonder why Im so hyped about this moment. After all, Nicki was not kind. There was aggression in her words, from calling Miley a bitch to posing that question as Yesha Callahan pointed out, when people from South Jamaica, Queens, ask, Whats good? theyre not talking about the weather or how youre feeling.

(26,366 posts)by understanding the difference in using a phrase like "have a nice day". If said
sincerely it's a pleasant wish, if said sarcastically it's a version of "F U". So the normal
use of "What's good" is the equivalent of "how are you doing?", while the use in the MTV
incident was another version of "F U".
