My wife did that on a highway last year. Then she called me and I left work and went and bought 4 gallons of water from the grocery store and brought them out to her and filled her radiator up and she drove straight to the mechanic.

Got the radiator fixed and that kind of sucked but not nearly as much as a new engine would have.

daughter DID NOT notice her light. Radiator BLEW hole, then I got a call. SMoke coming out of th front of my car. Stop and pull over NOW. She drove another 2 miles to her boyfriends house. I got there, opened the radiator. DRY because of the hole.. Engine had NO damage, thank god.
I told her you have to pay attention to your dashboard, and NOT just your radio!!!
