I don't feel bad about starting this post thusly: life will now be much easier.
Daddy was an asshole. He picked on our other cats. He picked fights in the neighborhood. (I couldn't begin to estimate the total of the vet bills over the last ten years.) He constantly begged for people food. Underfoot in the kitchen and frequently stepped on. Up on the counters to try to grab what we're cooking. Knocking the fork out of my hand. There's so much more.
Yet when he crawled up in my lap, all was instantly forgiven. He was sweet. He had a quiet purr. And a raspy voice. Someimes he meowed silently; it was comical.
I will miss you, Daddy. RIP

I remember hearing of the many adventures of Daddy. I'm sorry, Bertha. I understand exactly what you mean - life was easier after Clarisse passed (I can't tell you how many thousands of dollars of electronics equipment she ruined by peeing on them) but I loved her dearly.

(50,130 posts)My dearest tabby Chester broke every piece of pottery I owned. I finally figured that I continually hollered "Knock it off!!" at him, and he just took it literally.
My condolences on your Daddy cat. I hate to see them go, so much. But there are other cats who need your love and care. Maybe one of them will find you.
RIP Daddy. My dear orange tabby Keiko has been ahead of you almost exactly a year now, and surely is waiting to try to block you from the food dish, as was his favorite sport.

(4,031 posts)and you have to love him. Mine pee's on the floor in front of the litter box, hisses at my son's cats, but she is the queen. Why we love them so much, I don't know. Why we let them get away with so much is that we love them. Sorry your boy is gone, Bertha.

MiddleFingerMomMom, not long before she died the day after 9/11 at the age of 81,
swore me to secrecy and told me that out of all four children (who survived childbirth),
I was the one that gave her absolutely the MOST trouble.
.
And I was also her favorite.

I feel your loss. Try to alleviate it somewhat with thoughts of all the good years you
gave each other.

(17,621 posts)He was a real brat when he wanted to be. My sister said he was possessed. But then he'd climb into my lap and want to be scritched, and I couldn't stay mad at him. He and Daddy will no doubt become fast friends in kittycat heaven.

(7,613 posts)Buddy was a tuxedo/Sylvester cat.
Buddy was a jerk.
Somebody threw him out when he was less than a year old and he showed up on our doorstep. I told the wife that she could feed him but he would come into the house over my dead body. You know how that worked out.
Buddy was an indoor cat for a couple of years. He used the litter box and everybody was happy.
Then he changed. Even though he was fixed, he started spraying in the house. I said he would have to be an outdoor cat or we would have to get rid of him. We started letting him out and he became an indoor/outdoor cat. He still sprayed inside sometimes and we just sprayed him back with a water bottle and cleaned up afterwards. I had to replace our a/c registers (a favorite target) on a regular basis. the bottoms of our steel doors (another favorite target) got rusty and we taped paper towels over them.
Buddy liked people food, especially peas and broccoli. Eventually we just automatically put a little plate out for him.
For the last few years of his life, Buddy had a thyroid problem. We gave him pills which he spit out more often than not. He went from 16-17 pounds to 6-8 pounds. He vomited a lot and we spent a lot of time cleaning carpets.
He reached the end of the line at a respectable 14 years old. That was 6 months ago.
I really miss that little shit.
