AURORA, COLO. January 31 was just another day for most Aurorans, but at the Aurora Central Library, tears of pure delight were streaming down a 7-year-old boys face as a black Labrador named Pesto playfully kissed them away.
For Javary Howard, who had just been told Pesto would be coming home to live with him, it was the best day ever.
Pesto first earned his claim to fame last year for being a fixture at the Aurora Central Library along with his then-owner, Librarian Janie Clark, a puppy raiser for guide dogs. Pesto won over the hearts of dozens of library employees and patrons including Javary Howard, his brother Java, and his mother Kimistry, Aurora residents who frequent the library every day.
Javary weighs a mere 30 pounds due to a rare health condition that causes growth defects and extremely flexible joints, and his 5-year-old brother has autism, so they are both homeschooled at the library.
Javary spent most of his time in his wheelchair until about a year ago, when he met Pesto, and the dog gave him a reason to start trying to walk.
