We sat on our lawn and took a count when it got dark. We put it up 2 years ago, and last summer I think the highest count was 49. We bought the one that can hold up to 100 from here:

(5,909 posts)Bats are so good for the environment, and they have that weird virus that is killing them off. Great investment. I bought 2 for x-mas presents last year. The first year we bought ours we put it up in early spring and had bats by early summer. Thanks!

(21,020 posts)The first couple of years we lived here in the woods, we could hardly go outside in summer because of the mosquitoes, many of which even found their way into the house through the doggy door.
Then we got bat houses...one of them came from the Bat Conservation place.
I'm always excited when we see the bat poo in the spring. It means they're back, and we can go outside without fear of being eaten alive.
We had a few scary years here with that white-nose disease, but the population seems to be coming back.
Bats!!!

(5,909 posts)Great organization! I know...we have guano on the side of our house underneath the bat house, but so what? You can't even notice unless you're close and my husband and I both don't even want to hose it off. We don't want to do anything to disturb them!
Thanks for helping bats! They need it, and I hate mosquitoes!

(22,163 posts)We put a bat box up four years ago and the most we've seen is 2 . A state wildlife biologist brought us the box and told us the best place to erect it and we turn in our report yearly. I hope we have at least two this year.
