Time again for your favorite 10min+ Songs! (see rules to play!)

I love long songs and there are awesome songs that have been created that are 10 minutes in length or longer.

Post your favorite here but as always there are rules to pick your favorite song!

Song in question must originally have been recorded at 10 minutes or longer. Meaning a song like 'Dazed and Confused' by Led Zeppelin would NOT qualify even though there are versions of it out there that have been recorded at almost 30 minutes (a version from 'Song Remains the Same' clocks in at 29min+). But the original Led Zeppelin recording of 'Dazed and Confused from Led Zeppelin 1 was only 6:28minutes long. In fact Led Zeppelin only did 3 songs that came in longer that 10 minutes - "In My Time of Dying" from Physical Graffiti (11:08), "Achilles Last Stand" from Presence (10:31) and "Carouselambra" from In Through the Out Door (10:34). I hate to say it, none of them rank high as favorite 10 minute songs.

My list would include:

"Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys" by Traffic (11:40)
"Heart of a Sunrise" by Yes (10:34)
"And You and I" by Yes (10:08)
Shine on You Crazy Diamond (13:33)

Post your favorites here.

I have a slew in the 8-9 minute group too!

So how about a little Trane?

So, how good was Coltrane? He hadn't even been playing soprano sax for a year when he made this album.

The quartet:

John Coltrane, soprano sax
McCoy Tyner, piano
Steve Davis, bass
Elvin Jones, drums

plus a second set stuff spanning their career. So I'll get a good dose of their classic heavy era. I'm not a big fan of their newer stuff...too mellow.

I'm going to see King Diamond go Abigail all the way through a few weeks later.

I feel pretty lucky to have gotten tix to both these shows.

Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" - it's an entire album. Side 1 is 25 minutes, 48 seconds. Side 2 is 23 minutes, 26 seconds. All one song. If you don't recognize the title, part of it is the theme from "The Exorcist."

From about 12:27 to 19:10 is the most extraordinarily intense and shattering music I know in any genre. The tension it builds is almost literally unbearable. Mahler only dreamed of writing music with that kind of power and it makes Ravel's "Bolero" sound like kiddie-party fare. And I adore Ravel. THIS is something other than else.

So, it was difficult to remember and find cuts to meet your criteria. After listening to these few below without then going on and finishing the entire album, here are the favorites that can be enjoyed singly

Tangerine Dream - Green Desert (19:29)

Banco de Gaia - Last Train to Lhasa (11:53)

Dr. Fiorella Terenzi - Sidereal Breath (11:04)

Layne Redmond - The Elements (album: Since The Beginning) 21:09
(This cut is not online, so here's a shorter cut for a taste of what her expertise with the frame drum was like )
