I got to see Chris Cornell last night. Having seen Robert Plant (and once Page & Plant) do the song 'Thank You' about 3-4 times live in concert I will say this. Chris Cornell does that song way better than Robert Plant. And btw 'Thank You' is an original Led Zeppelin song (yes I know LZ lifted most of their early music from someone else).
I also have it on the Ipod from his 'Songbook' live CD he put out back in 2011.
So post here your song remakes that were done better by artists other than the ones who originally released them.

And then every once in awhile, very rarely, someone like this comes along. I'm a retired vocalist who studied and sang for many years and I detest 99.999% of the dreck coming out with automation being substituted for actual ability and artistry.
Her phrasing is impeccable. Her use of dynamics, LIMITED USE of ornamentation adding just the right amount of depth and spice. I was one of the unfortunate ones who didn't discover her until after her untimely death.
You're right. This is much better than the original. Jesus, what a talent!

As I am -- posted this five years ago:
...Greyson Chance has racked up thirty MILLION YouTube views and an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show (featuring a phone call from Lady Gaga telling him to follow his dreams and stay away from girls). He is now in Los Angeles recording an album for Geffen Records. A happy ending? Not in my book.
Chance says Gaga is his "number one influence" because she's "so individual." But his playing (and much more important, his soulfulness) has much more in common with his other influence: a folk-rock band called Augustana--"one of the most underrated bands I think ever to step the planet...It is very sad that they are so unknown."
Which creates a important dilemma for someone so young--does Chance follow Gaga's flashy, video-and-hype-dependent path to quick fame and fortune, or put his music first and hopefully make a living "serious musician"-style like Augustana? Or maybe Geffen will go the Jason Bieber route and turn him into a hiphop "teen scream machine" -- replace his piano with dance steps, his polo shirt with a leather jacket and his lyrics with rapping.
That's why I'm not happy about Greyson Chance being a major label recording artist at the age of twelve--the industry is going to make that decision for him. I'd like to see him continue his musical education--with all the promotion he'll have to do, his musical growth may become stunted...
Just as I feared, they're force-feeding him through a Justin Bieber pre-teenybopper we-gotta-get-something-on-the-radio sieve -- if he should be cloning anyone, rather it be Ed Sheeran or Adele -- neither, of course, of whom would have a record deal if they were American.

(8,175 posts)You know, even if you are gay you can get all the girls.
Not sure if he is gay, but it's looking like a strong possibility. And gay guys are so cool...they can be a girl's best friend!
I currently have a crush on Mitch Grassi (and I'm a 66 year-old lady), of course a crush for me now is not the same as when I was young), and when I was in my 20s I had a crush on a gay guy in one of my college classes. Didn't know he was gay till near the end of the semester. Didn't care after I found out!
I'm not sure I'm as into Greyson's music as he's developed. Some of it seems too forced. He's still very talented, and maybe just needs to mature a bit more.

First time I saw a pic of Chrissie in the NME back in 1978 I said to myself "if she sounds half as good as she looks I an in LUV!" She sounded every bit as good as she looked. Still one of my favorite rock voices.
And, sacrilegious as it may sound, Fleetwood Mac did the most perfect possible version of "For Your Love," way back in the Bob Welch days:

LeftOfSelf-Centered
(776 posts)but for me it's Saigon Kick's version of "Space Oddity".
Probably in part because at the time I wasn't that familiar with Bowie, and so this version is how I really got to know the song. But I still much prefer SK's arrangement because it is much more dynamic, while Bowie's to me is fairly one note, since there are no major changes.
For example:
- The drums play in the verses where all the action happens, which creates more separation to the more quiet and contemplative choruses ("For here am I sitting in a tin can..." . Also Phil Varone is one of my favourite rock drummers.
- Under the line "Tell my wife I love her very much" all the instruments are played softer, to underline the tender moment before coming back.
- Once things start going awry ("Ground Control to Major Tom your circuit's dead..." the distorted electric guitar is brought in, and the drummer ups the energy in his playing, which underlines the dramatic turn of events.
Yeah, I think about this kind of stuff way too much... You can hate me now.
