Another mishap with nature - A Lizard Tale.
(See what I did there?)
So we picked up a hitchhiker on the way out (a lizard) and my husband tried to do the right thing and stopped the car to let the guy get off the hood, but the lizard had another idea. He ducked in the grill of the car.
We continued on our errand, and, in case he still survived, we parked the car by some bushes. I was surprised to see a lot of little lizards and it occurred to me that out in a busy parking lot, hiding out in landscaping, may not be a bad life for a lizard. Not compared to one where it might face hungry possums, raccoons, owls, hawks and other woodland creatures.
Anyway, when we were finished with the errand we came back and discovered a stand-off between the fully mature hitchhiker and three smaller lizards. My husband recognized him, so it was our guy. We were the tipping factor and the large lizard ducked in the bushes.
I'm guessing that it will now be survival of the fittest in that small oasis shrubbery. But, I'm not so sure you can count on size if the other lizards decide to join forces. Though, I don't know if they do that kind of thing.
