They sold me a defective fridge for which there does not seem to be a fix. 3 years into it the problem has cropped up again, 2 months after the extended warranty I bought ran out. They refuse to replace fridge, nor will they fix it for free. All-around horrible customer service. Take your business elsewhere.

(28,394 posts)I think they went downhill a long time ago.
I used to have some very good appliances from Sears. I had a dryer that lasted over 20 years!

(15,740 posts)For example, they advertised "An engraving of the first President, George Washington, made by the U.S. Government, and only $1". It was a genuine U.S. Government two cent stamp. No one could sue, because it wasn't false advertising -- just misleading.
There are several other crafty swindles they conducted in their early years before getting bought out.

(29,672 posts)Gave my husband a new lawn mower for his birthday, I know, such a love present. ha ha, anyway bought it at Sears in Winona, MN. When we went to purchase it, "kids" were working in the store.....and I'm sorry, but shoot, they were two young men who had acne!! and not that there's anything wrong with that it's just that they were young. My husband tell him the model number of the mower he wants, as he found it on line at the Sears website. Young guy says, "oh yah, we've got that model but it's in a box and we'll need a few days to put it together". Husband who has such a heart of gold, says, no problem we'll be back on Saturday, it was Wednesday. Well Saturday comes, we drive back to the store and it's not ready. So, after driving 40 miles round trip, we go to calm down and have a beer at the local American Legion. I'm fuming, my husband just says that they much have been busy. So on Wednesday the following week, they call and say it's ready. Woohoo. We drive another 40 miles round trip to pick up the mower. Husband mows the lawn exactly 3 times and the mower is coming apart!!! It's literally falling apart as he's mowing. We load it up take it back to the store and the kid says oh we don't fix them, you have to drive to "larry's small engine repair in Centerville, WI, he's under contract with Sears to fix stuff for us, ANOTHER 25 miles past the already 20 miles we had driven!!! Larry says oh sure, I can fix it, I'll give you a call when it's ready. 3 weeks later we get the call, go pick it up, and Larry says he couldn't believe how poorly the mower was put together, so he re-routed some starter cable, tightened all the bolts and said it should last a long time. With no cost to us, ha ha, except aggravation and gas money, my husband's new Sears mower is working fine, and doing a great job. Whew.......
