Never doubt the Tobster.

A company wants to interview me next week for a good paying job in manufacturing. It starts at over $4 an hour more than I make right now. It's a non-driving position that puts my education to use. I've been a trucker for the past 19 years.

This was the last position I had applied for and I knew it was possible that I'd get a call from them. They just haven't moved as quickly as another opportunity I had. I had to take a series of tests to qualify for the position and I scored well over what I needed. I just have an interview at this point, but I think that there is a good possibility that I'll get the job.

This was floating around in the back of my mind when I was considering taking another driving position. I had an offer there, but I just didn't feel right about it the more I thought about it, so I declined it much to the disappointment of several of you here.

We'll see how it goes. If it works out, I'll be much better off than I am now at my current company or I would have been at the job I turned down. If I had taken the other job, I would have been starting it this coming Monday and I would not have been able to pursue this new lead.

The goal when I went back to school was to get out of the truck and into something else that paid just as well or better. It's been a year since I graduated. It's been very hard to be patient over that period of time. I've almost jumped at different driving jobs twice. Hopefully, I've made the right decision to stay with the original plan.

This manufacturing job sounds like it's right up your alley.

I hope it works out! What a relief that would be for you and Jen.

And non-driving. Very cool!

Do let us know!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I've had to make a lot of tough decisions in my time. Sometimes, it is very difficult to see what is the right way. I've made the wrong choice several times in my life. But I've learned from those experiences. Although I'm not really a superstitious person, I've learned to take my gut instinct into account. What I was doing with the other trucking company just started feeling more and more like the wrong way to go.

How are you doing?

It's been and is a rough go right now Tobin. I just spent 12 days in hospital, got 6 pints of blood, surgery to stop internal bleeding, and I'm on 24 hour a day IV nutrition. TPN it's called.

Thanks for asking, I do appreciate it. I hope you two are well and ready to celebrate Christmas with family. We'll be doing pretty much the same as we did for Thanksgiving ... nothing. Just not feeling up to it this year. Better days ahead.

* I think the most important thing YOU are doing right now is taking your time and not making rash decisions. Patience is hard, but it can be worth it in the end.

To turn down a job you already knew you didn't want after going to all the effort to educate yourself for a better job is a good decision. I wish you the best!
