I came home one evening, and as I swung into my parking space, my headlights hit a stray cat sitting in the middle of the catnip. He had his eyes closed and a big smile on his face. Never saw him again, but I can guess the stories he told on his travel.

"Dude, one night…."

but luckily they have never brought any friends to invade that part of the garden.

Man, that is a LOT of cats in the pic.
Would love to know the back story on it.

"As of 2013, compared with the fifteen residents of Aoshima Island in their 50s to 80s, including 4 fishermen, there are more than 100 cats on the island. About 10 years ago, when the island's human population fell below 50, the number of cats began to increase. In September 2013, photographs of the habitats of Aoshima cats were posted in blogs and other media, which helped to attract a lot of attention to them, and a succession of visitors started coming to the island to see the cats. The island has also been called "Cat Lover's Heaven". The reader should note that half of the island's human population do not like cats, but they relate that they have "somehow been able to co-exist" with the cats."

They all look healthy enough, the vet care must be petty high.

However, according to at least one blog, most cat tourists come on weekends, and give the cats enough food to gorge themselves for that time. But once the visitors leave, the cats descend on the 15 local residents to demand food which frightens some of the residents, so that might be why half of the population doesn't like them.

"They're coming for you...."

Around here, we got possums and armadillos that dig up the gardens, looking for worms and bugs...so much worse than cats.
