Rushs Neil Peart says hes retired from music
Over the the summer, Rush embarked on their R40 Tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of drummer Neil Pearts membership in the band. At the time, bandmate Alex Lifeson said it would likely be the bands final full-scale tour together due to his psoriatic arthritis and Pearts chronic tendonitis. While Lifeson left the door open for future projects, including smaller tours and soundtrack work, he said the bands ultimate fate lays in the hands of musics greatest drummer.
If thats the case, it appears Rush is no more. In a new interview with Drumhead Magazine (via Jambase), Peart spoke frankly about his coming to terms with retirement. Lately Olivia has been introducing me to new friends at school as My dad Hes a retired drummer. True to sayfunny to hear. And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to take yourself out of the game. I would rather set it aside then face the predicament described in our song Losing It (Sadder still to watch it die, than never to have known it).
With Rush no longer touring what's left?
Nickelback tours?
Justin Bieber Tours?
Ted Cruz running for president of the United States.
Let's just seal the border now and keep our country safe from these crazies from Canada! I didn't mind it knowing that yearly we could have an awesome tour from the great band of Rush (yet somehow I always managed to miss it how I never know why!!!!). Now they are retired Let's keep the US safe once again
( for those who haven't figured it out. I Canadians! Well except for Nickelback, Justin Bieber and Ted Cruz)

(14,276 posts)In his day he was magical. But I certainly understand the toll his amazing percussion work had to have taken on his body.
He deserves a pleasant and fulfilling retirement. Rock on, Neil!!

(4,012 posts)I got to see their last show (???) at the Forum. I had tears in my eyes and I never get that way.
As much as I love them & would love to see them continue touring, they have nothing left to prove. They have the respect in the Rock/Metal community that few share. They are great people & awesome musicians.
Thank you Geddy, Alex & Neil for being a special part of my life.
BTW, below is a vid of the last song of the Forum (possibly their last show). Neil stands up and takes a few pic of the audience & then comes to he front of the stage to take a bow (unheard of). See 5:43 till the end.

(12,132 posts)RUSH's GEDDY LEE Says NEIL PEART Hasn't Retired
Peart gave an interview to Drumhead magazine in which he was quoted as saying that he was happy to accept his daughter's description of him as a "retired drummer." He added: "It does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to... take yourself out of the game."
But Lee insists that nothing has been decided about RUSH's next move and that Peart was simply explaining his decision to take a break...
I hope he hasn't retired- I missed R40 and want to see them at least once more.
