I'll admit I got more of a nostalgia kick from the new Independence Day trailer than I do....

....from the new Star Wars movies. Not that I dislike Star Wars movies (I enjoyed them a lot....well, at least Episodes 4-6), nor do I think Independence Day was ever objectively a well-done movie; it was just one of the most enjoyable throwaway popcorn flicks of all time.

But it genuinely got me excited to see it in theaters, whereas I'll probably wait for video on The Force Awakens.

Maybe it's just because I identify more as a child of the 90s than the 80s (even though I grew up in both.)

The two movies are selling in different ways. Their choice to use the speach from the first movie in the trailer was brilliant. And the trailer looks good.

Star Wars is doing a different thing. They are reopening the universe and playing off of the massive fan base. I'm actually interested in Independence Day after watching the trailer, though I plan to see both.
