My calico, Charlotte is out cold on my desk, and she's snoring!
Difficult to describe the sound.

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,735 posts)Except it's high-pitched. Actually, he sounds like a drunk baby. Snrrrrk. Snrrrrk. Snrrrrk. Sometimes I have to give him a little nudge to make him stop so I can sleep.

(14,627 posts)always has. And he is a deep sleeper. It's sometimes hard to wake him.
He's 16 years old and he has kitty IBS, with lots of tummy issues. Even though he eats all the time, he is always a little under weight. I always thought that fat pets were more prone to snoring.

(86,647 posts)2naFish was a very stealthily fit girl and she not only snored on occasion, she would have dreams where she was apparently in an altercation taking paw swats at whomever her opponent was... but the funniest part was when she would hiss in her sleep, it was like a slow motion hiss! The growls were rare but really strange. When she had those kinds of dreams I would faintly call her like I was across the yard so she wouldn't be startled and I could slowly wake her and console her. She was a bit of a scrapper and had been beat up by an owl a couple times so I didn't want to shock her.
Yes, cats do just about all the same things people and dogs do in their sleep.

(34,136 posts)Sort of like this one:
The saddest thing I ever heard from a sleeping cat was my cat crying. He was very young when I adopted him from the animal shelter, probably only four weeks old. For several years he would whimper and cry when he was sleeping if he wasn't curled up with me. I'd move over to him and gently stroke and cuddle him until he settled down and went into a calmer sleep.

(17,340 posts)And sometimes twitch and moan while sleeping.
And, like people, as they get older, they snore more and more loudly.

(20,886 posts)Strangely enough it's the little female.
As a kitten she was Dora the Explorer, during the "terrible twos" she was Dora the Destroyer, now, at 5 years old she's Dora the Snorer.

(68 posts)I have a cat that had sinus eye herpes sinus infection when a kitten. The eye came through it OK but his sinuses were damaged a bit. He adapted. He snores very loudly. Not only that, he's learn to communicate with us via snorts and heavy breathing. He begs for treats by breathing heavy and snorts when he gets impatient. Very unusual!
